This is my first adventure into Porsche ownership. Upon my 2015 retirement from the USAF we landed in Mid-Coast Maine. The final 8 years of my 25 years on active duty we lived in Germany. I had driven friends Porsches in Germany, but was focused on BMW motorcycles at the time and have ridden over 50K miles throughout Europe. I purchased my low mileage ’06 Cayman S this past January and immediately scheduled it for a Slakker Racing Development engine rebuild and displacement increase to 3.9L due to severe bore scoring in two of the cylinders. It is also having an overhaul of major components that need repair/replacement. Have I spent too much money? Probably… but it is all about the “Smiles per Mile”. I’m a firm believer in this being a drivers car that is driven 8-10 months out the year and will be parked during extreme snow events and mud season as our 1/4 mile long driveway is gravel. When it is returned to me in May it will be driven on a road trip that will take me on a circuitous route of the awesome roads throughout the West. Starting in OK City I’ll head to New Mexico, Arizona, Utah, Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, South Dakota and parts in between. I look forward to meeting other members and hearing their stories. Cheers!
