Another Huge Success!
DER 2nd Annual Show & Shine
July 31st, 2005
Benefit for the Governor Baxter School for the Deaf
Mackworth Island,
Portland
We raised over $3800 for this worthy
cause!!
The
second annual Show and Shine to benefit the “Family Learning Vacation”
program at the Governor Baxter School for the Deaf (GBSD) on Mackworth
Island was even more successful than our first
event in 2004. Last year about 77 cars participated. This year we had
about 103 cars on display – a growth of 34% over 2004. And 37 or so of the
cars were Porsches! We also saw a Lamborghini Diablo, an Aston Martin,
three Cobra replicas, a Ferrari 308 GTS, several antique cars, and many
classics. As they said that night on the six o’clock news on channel 13,
“it was a car show with something for everyone.”

The weatherman cooperated for
the second year with sunshine in the morning and a little cloud cover in
the afternoon that held the temperature to a comfortable 73 degrees. The
Falmouth Rotary Club did a great job at the food booth again with
breakfast items in the morning and grilled hamburgers and hotdogs in the
afternoon. Dick Marsh of the Rotary Club arranged for the Joan Kennedy
Band to play country-rock tunes from 11:00 AM until 1:30 PM. The band was
a real crowd pleaser – please let me know what you PCA members thought and
what, if any, music we should plan for next year.
This year’s event raised a
total of $3,811.00 for a worthy cause to help deaf children and their
families learn about the GBSD programs. All of the PCA’rs that
participated should feel proud for contributing their time and entry fee
donation to give these special kids a boost. An extra “Thank You” goes out
to all those that volunteered to help with the event: Rick DeFillip, Ned
Vadakin, Steve and Kyle Atwell, Sally Sprafka, and Gloria Giordano (if I
missed anyone, please forgive me: we could not have pulled this event off
without you volunteers).
