DER PCA 2004 Annual Banquet
Story by Linc Avery
Marriott Sable
Oaks, Portland - Another great turnout with nearly 60 members
and spouses attended this year's DER Annual Banquet in Portland. Our
new president, Glenn Hill, did the honors as master of ceremonies in
welcoming all to the event as he previewed what appears to be a fun
season ahead with many new and also traditional Porsche events.
The Marriott once again
provided a high quality buffet dinner after the social cocktail hour
with a very comfortable and spacious banquet room. As dessert was
served, the business issues were quickly dispersed with as the slate
of club officers nominated for this year were approved by all
attending.
Glenn went on to announce this
year's DER Member-of-the Year award presented in absentia to Jerry
Giordano (who was away in Europe). What made this award particularly
special was that Jerry is not a club officer, but nevertheless
attended and participated actively in most of the year's board
meetings and event plannings. He has been extremely helpful and
insightful in his ideas and suggestions for a number of past and
future DER events and typifies the character of an ideal Porsche
club member with his infectious enthusiasm. Congratulations, Jerry!
We were then hosted to a joint
presentation by Steve & Kyle Atwell and Terri Omatick discussing the
upcoming Zone 1 PCA Concours & Rally which will be hosted by our
region in May, 2005. They explained the typical schedule of events
and went into some of the details involved with running a concours
and rallying event. Tentative plans have been made at this point and
our first organizational meeting will be held on April 15th to begin
to firm up the details and volunteer requirements (see the section
on the 2005 Zone 1 Concours/Rally).
This is a huge event and a great chance for this Maine club to put
on a memorable weekend for many people from throughout the
Northeast. It's clear that we need a lot of help from within though,
so the speakers were actively seeking volunteer assistance in the
year to come.
The evening wound down with
door prize awards that included several Porsche collectibles (a
coveted calendar was mysteriously "won" by President Hill!!) as well
as the "perennial" favorites, the table floral centerpieces. It
seemed like the majority of attendees went home with some form of a
prize.
Many thanks to those who made
the evening such a success. It's clear that we are going to have a
fun and interesting season ahead.
