| The
DER contingent made a strong showing for our first Driver Education
track event on the new Mt. Tremblant "Le Circuit". The
track renovations and resurfacing were impressive, although
incomplete, and construction work on the first two days of the event
mandated that we run just the south half of the track's Short
Course.
The last
2 days on the full course made it all worthwhile. The Armco and
corner run-offs were yet to be completed, however the new layout
with the newly graded and repaved surface were spectacular. The
bumpy off-camber turns of several years ago have been replaced with
smooth, sweeping turns that immediately allowed faster, yet safer
lap times. All this in an incredibly scenic area at the base of the
famous ski resort.
An
unexpected diversion occurred when the track's owner and renovator,
Lawrence Strohl (former CEO of Tommy Hilfiger) , arrived in his
elite McLaren "street car" with his own 18-wheeler stacked
with Ferrari race and street cars. On one afternoon the track was
closed down an hour early to allow Mr. Strohl a chance to exercise
several of his steeds (and the McLaren) at track speeds. Great
engine sounds!
The
Village of Mt. Tremblant is a high-end tourist destination point
made quite affordable due to the currency exchange rate.
Numerous outdoor activities are available for the whole
family, all in a very comfortable environment. Overall it was a very
worthwhile adventure and one that we all will look forward to
repeating next year.
