Membership:
Rod reported that we have our first Cayenne owner. This new member has
expressed an interest n Drivers Ed. May see him or her at the track. Rod
will follow up with e-mails to new members to bring them up to date on
upcoming events.
Old Business:
Review of Jeff's Bar-B-Que:
About 12 cars. Good weather. Concours
focused n tool kits. Three awards. Although the club didn't make a
profit on the event, participants had a great time.
Upcoming events:
Oxford Plains autocross September 28:
Steve has forwarded a check to the track for registration. Insurance has
been requested. We need people to help with driver registration, timing,
tech, etc. Steve Atwell, Don McGilvery, Sally Sprafka will be available.
Rod Carr can help in the morning. Steve will contact Don Michaud, Russ
Radcliffe, and Joe Thrift to see if they are available. Linc will check
the Cumberland Motor Club website for more details, and e-mail a notice to
DER members.
Web Page review:
Linc indicated we could use more up-to-date material on the web page. It
would really be good to have some photos. The most recent photos are from
the tour to The Balsams. We could use some photos of the Bar-B-Que and
concours.
Newsletter update:
Sally Sprafka provided a reasonably long
article about a four-day DE event at Mont Tremblant. Glenn will be
starting on the next issue soon, with anticipated publication the end of
October. Glenn reminded the group that the fall issue of the newsletter
would probably be his last one. There was a brief discussion of the
editor's responsibilities and time commitment. Glenn noted that the most
interesting part of the job is the writing, editing, and formatting. The
"leg work" of printing and mailing is less interesting, but equally time
consuming. Glenn indicated it would be good to have more newsletter
articles from club members. He would like to avoid reprinting articles of
general interest from other regions. Glenn suggested offering a prize or
drawing at the banquet for people who have submitted articles to the
newsletter.
Other:
2005 Zone 1 Concours and Rally:
Steve circulated a draft proposal, developed by himself and Kyle, listing
the various aspects of the event that DER will be responsible for, such as
hotel accommodations, a concours site and prep area, event workers,
pre-event publicity, etc. There needs to be agreement on a date for the
event as well. DER will seek proposals from several hotels for room
rates, food service, etc. We were reminded that the Portland Head Light
is still the first choice for concours location. We also have yet to
determine whether the rally course from the Portland PCA Parade is still
an option, or a new suggested course needs to be developed. Steve will be
attending the Presidents Meeting with Don McGilvery in November, at which
time there should be more information about the 2005 Zone 1 concours and
rally.
Next Meeting:
October 14th, 2003, 7:00 p.m.,
