Tour to the Balsams:
We still need an article about the
tour to The Balsams for the newsletter. Dutch Dresser agreed that for
some of us, it is a major hike to The Balsams. Although this year we had
a larger group than last year. There is another newly restored mountain
resort/hotel Dutch suggested. We need to get the name from him, and check
it out.
DER BBQ:
Count this as a very successful event. There were at least 15 cars. We
spent over $150 on food, and this time we forgot to collect the $5.00 per
car. We are still ok, but we need to pay attention to what we spend. Joe
Thrift was going to speak with Jeff about the Oxford Plains autocross, but
didn't get the opportunity. Joe will call Jeff and let him know that we
decided not to host the autocross this year.
PANORAMA article (Regions column): Glenn
wrote a brief blurb about our Mackworth Island charity event, which was
published in the From the Regions section of the most recent Pano.
Zone 1 Rally and concours:
Lengthy discussion of 2005 Zone 1 Concours and Rally -- It was agreed that
in order to host the event, our region needs an individual who will be in
charge of or lead the various activities that contribute to planning and
putting on the event. Steve Atwell will contact Henry Hoeh, and discuss
the situation with him again.
German Restaurant tour: Sunday,
October 3 is the tour to, and dinner at the Old Munich restaurant in
Topsham. Steve Atwell has contacted the restaurant, and they are
expecting us. Details of the event will be posted on the DERPCA website,
and Linc will send out an e-mail reminder to all for whom he has e-mail
addresses.
Newsletter update: There
was a suggestion that for this year, at least, there be three issues of
the newsletter, rather than four. This was discussed, but not resolved.
Web site: Linc
would like photos of Jeff's Barbeque for the web page.
Finances: Regarding
the $5.00 per car issue -- It
should be handled on an event-by-event basis. It should definitely be
considered when the club is going to have costs, such as for food and/or
trophies. One member suggested we develop a spreadsheet or other
record-keeping aid to show financial gains and losses by event.
Other: Further
discussion of what types of events work best for us: We seem to do best
with social events, such as tours, barbeque/picnics, restaurants, etc. We
are not yet ready to host a track event. We need to wait and see if the
indoor karting piques interest as a winter activity. We had good turn-out
at the one we held last year.
Linc Avery reported interest in the Indoor
Karting league. He reported that several people have e-mailed him
expressing interest, and asking for more information. He will make
arrangements to set up a DER league this fall or winter.
Glenn reported that he may have found a member who is interested in
recreating the Mid-Coast Ramble. He is Mark Ellis. He works in the
Falmouth area. Glenn will stay in contact with Mark as we plan next
year's events.
Gerry Giordano reported that he had recently attended a car show in
Windham. There were probably 400 cars there. While there he met up with
the organizer of the annual Foreign Car Show, who indicated that he plans
to hold the next show at Mackworth Island rather than Fort Williams, where
it has been in past years. That would have implications for our Mackworth
Island car show, should we choose to do it again next year. One
possibility is to consider a joint event.
Next Meeting:
