Old
Business:
1. A Taste of the Track:
Lengthy discussion of planned tour to NHIS in October to introduce
interested members to driver education.
Preliminary discussion somewhat speculative, as Ned had not arrived
yet to give accurate update on activities.
Basic plan is as follows. Event
to be last weekend in October. To
be called "A Taste of the Track".
North Country Region interested in making this a charity event.
Plan to charge $25/car. Should
lengthen the day by about 45 minutes.
Planned events for participants in A Taste of the Track:
Parade lap with "drivers" meeting before and after; ride
with instructor in Yellow or White run group; maybe flag (or help flag)
one session; and dinner (additional fee).
The bottom line is DER advertises the event, and gets participants
there, and NCR will take care of the rest.
Plan to leave southern Maine (exact departure point not yet
established) about 8:00 a.m. and tour to NHIS with planned arrival time
about 11:00.
Remaining issues
relate to:
Expectations
regarding who is in charge: NCR
suggests that if it is agreeable to us, they manage all aspects of the
event at NHIS, and we manage the aspects that precede it…planning the
tour, and getting participants to the track.
For example, NCR will identify instructors for people to ride
with, and have loaner helmets on hand.
Fees.
If we charge $25/car, which group keeps what portion of the fee?
Vehicles allowed on the track: We
need to plan for iffy weather, and not all participants bringing a
Porsche. Will other vehicles be allowed on the track?
Now our task is to
publicize the event, and get people interested in coming.
2. Advertisers paid:
Performance Plus and Foreign Intrigue have paid.
What about web page ads? So far we have not broached that with our
advertisers.
3. Membership:
As of 6/29/01 we had 134 members.
That is fewer than our colleagues in New Hampshire.
Do they count differently than we do?
We use the most conservative count, including only primary members
who are current. There is
some concern about losing members. Each
loss is $12 less in the treasury. And
every little bit counts. Suggestion
that we get together a list of who has been dropped for non-renewal, and
get some volunteers to call them.
New
Business
Getch reminded us of
a vintage race and Rennsport reunion the last weekend in July.
Also that same weekend there is an SCCA pro rally in Rumford.
Organized by John Buffum. Will
use paper company logging roads. Sounds
like fun.
DER upcoming events:
Next is Jeff's Bar B Q on August 19.
German restaurant tour September 30.
Taste of the Track at NHIS October 27.
Web Page:
Not a lot new going on. The
layers look great. And there
is now a bulletin board where members can exchange messages with one
another.
Good news:
We were 6th out of 16 entries in the Parade Newsletter Contest this
year. Compared with almost
dead last the previous year, that's pretty good!
Congratulations, Getch.
