Poulin, Ned Vadakin, Rod Carr, Joe Thrift, Linc Avery, Jerry Giordano

Meeting
convened 7:00 p.m.
Minutes
approved as written from
the April '02 meeting as submitted. There were no minutes
for May.
Membership:
National membership is now over 50,000 members. Our region had a couple
of transfers out, mostly New Hampshire residents. There were several
non-renewals, and board members were assigned names to call to follow up.
Old Business:
Don has been in regular contact with Henry Hoeh regarding the Up' N Maine
Region, and the future for their members. Don was hoping that Henry, as
Zone 1 Rep, could help facilitate communication with them and explore the
possibility of transferring their membership to DER.
New Business:
Driver Ed: We need to be better organized with regard
to tech inspection for DE. Don suggested that we form a team of
"approved" tech inspectors for the region, so we don't have to rely on
just one person to do the inspections, as we do currently. With the peer
inspection process, the work of completing the inspections could be
distributed among several people, all of whom are qualified to tech cars,
and all of whom could have a tech inspector's stamp as required by PCA.
Members of the Board agreed with this concept, and several volunteered to
participate. Board members with expertise with several models of Porsches
(e.g. older cars, water pumpers, newer air cooled, etc.) volunteered, so
all bases will be covered. We were reminded that Ralph Small will
continue to help with teching cars, a service he provides gratis to club
members. A beginning list of approved inspectors includes: McGilvery,
Atwell, Carr, Vadakin, Radcliffe, Thrift, Poulin, Ralph Small, Morong P/A,
Foreign Intrigue, and Don Michaud
Upcoming events:
Ice Cream Run: Friday,
June 21, meet at the Yarmouth Shop 'n' Save at 7:00 p.m. if you want to
tour up with the group. Oterhwise meet at the ice cream stand about
8:00. Steve will take care of insurance waivers for the tour. We will
ask for a $5.00 contribution from folks who join the tour.
356 Meet: Glenn
was going to host a meet for 356 folks at his home on July 27. He needs
to change that to August 4. It will be in the newsletter.
Midcoast Ramble: Needs
to be rescheduled. It was pouring rain. Consider rescheduling for
October 13 with the Owl's Head Museum Foreign Car Fest. Don will contact
Getch regarding helping to reschedule, and coordinating the Ramble.
German Restaurant Tour:
Planning is in process. Date is October 6. See Website and
Newsletter.
Web Page review: PCA
National contest is ongoing. Results expected soon. Free hosting
available through National for Web pages of 50 megabytes or more. Ours is
currently at 45 Megabytes. We may be eligible for free hosting soon.
Considering adding streaming video. However National does not include
streaming video as part of the free hosting offer.
Newsletter update:
This was quite a discussion. There were issues with
the cover and "closing" of the newsletter. There was unanimous agreement
that we should go back to heavier gauge paper for the cover even though it
means a little more postage. The thin paper cover looks tacky. Long
discussion about how to close the outer edge of the newsletter. Whether
with a staple or a dot or sticky tab of some kind. The plus with a staple
is that you can staple an insert (like a loose sheet listing upcoming
events that you can stick on your refrigerator door) into the newsletter,
and it doesn't slip out. Major negative with a staple is that you risk
breaking a fingernail or poking yourself when you open it. Major plus
with a sticky tab or dot is that the booklet can be "popped" open without
injuring yourself. However if there is an insert, it may slide out.
Bottom line. We close the booklet with a dot, and if the insert slides
out and gets lost, don't say Glenn didn't tell you so. Need to remember
to send the newsletter to the Up'N Maine president or one of their
officers, as they are still "officially" a region. Glenn was interested
in including regular "trackie" column in the newsletter, as there are so
many of us board members who are trackies. We agreed that is was
reasonable to consider occasionally, but it should not be so extensive as
to represent "reports" on all track events we attend, or it would take up
the whole newsletter. And not every one who reads the newsletter is as
interested in track stuff as we are. We could feature track-related
items. For example Don could mention trackie activities in his
President's column. We could include a review of computer games, and a
"product review". Russ will put together another "5 days at the Glen"
entry like he did last year. We also discussed including a column on
driving skills, that might appeal to people interested in learning to
drive on the track, but not knowing how to get started. Suggestions were
skills you can practice on the road like braking in a straight line,
shuffle steering, apexes, and heel and toe. Also want to include a page
in the newsletter asking members to contribute articles on topics of
interest.
From the Zone:
We need a more effective method for communicating with Henry Hoeh
regarding Up'N Maine. National will offer a concours judges'
accreditation workshop for people who want to be Parade concours judges.
Ellen Beck (North Country) will be having a Barbeque at her house on July
6, at 3:00 p.m., and we're all invited.
Next Meeting:
Tuesday, July 9, 7:00 p.m. at Ledgewood, Inc.
Adjourned at 8:45
p.m.
