Board Meeting
Minutes
March 9th, 2004
Offices of
Industry & Energy Associates (Terri Omatick)
Present: Terri
Omatick, Rod Carr, Glenn Hill, Joe Thrift, Sally Sprafka, Kyle and Steve
Atwell. Guest: Jerry
Giordano
Meeting
convened 7:00 p.m.
Minutes
approved: Approval
of minutes from February.
Membership:
Rod reported he has not received an
update from PCA National yet. We are currently at 179 active members,
plus about 15 that we are carrying.
Old Business: Planning
for March 27 banquet:
Last minute things include: Need a TV/VCR combo for tapes. Need a DVD
player for the intro DVD from the upcoming Zone 1 concours and rally in
Saratoga Springs. Linc will bring a projector and laptop. We can rent a
screen from the hotel. Meal choices are chicken and haddock. Terri and
Steve will do the presentation, focusing on the 2005 Zone 1 concours and
rally which we will host. They will show the DVD introducing the Saratoga
Springs event. Steve Atwell will contact Bill Sowles regarding Morong
providing hors d'oeuvres. An interesting phenomenon: "Oops" postcards
were sent out to be sure everyone had the correct date for the banquet.
Not only did they do that, but they also elicited quite a few responses to
the invitation. Might be a good idea to send out postcards periodically
to remind people of the events calendar.
Glenn has spoken with
Dave Getchell regarding his rally sport activities. He has invited Dave
to be our guest at the banquet.
Maine Indoor Karting: Consider
possibility of forming a league beginning in the fall, and then have it as
an ongoing winter activity. Ask Linc to spearhead this through the
website, to see how much interest there is. Glenn will do an article
about the recent impromptu event for the newsletter.
Spring Fling is a go: Ready
to go for April 25. Glenn will bring doughnuts and coffee. Somehow Steve
Atwell's name got connected to the coffee and doughnuts run. He will
contact Linc to get his name off.
Show 'N Shine: In collaboration with
Baxter School for the Deaf. Gerry reported that Dr. Taub, the School's
director has discussed our proposal with the School's Board, including our
interest in the event's being a benefit for the school. Gerry will go
there Tuesday of next week to follow up. Rotary may help sponsor the
event. Gerry has contacted the Cumberland Motor Club who also may be
interested in helping. We reminded ourselves that PCA National provides
financial assistance for benefit events. Consider a weekend in July for
this event.
Zone 1 Concours and Rally:
We can't use Fort Williams on June 5.
That is a major school graduation weekend. Consider May 20 - 22 for the
event. Kyle will contact the Cape Elizabeth City Manager.
Reminder - - on April
15 there is a meeting of volunteers for planning the Zone 1 event.
Other events: The calendar is in need
of finalization soon. Possible events are the Ice Cream Run in June (June
20?); The Balsams again (August 22?, we will need to approach Dutch
Dresser to ascertain his interest); possible trip to Bar Harbor B & B in
lieu of German Restaurant tour (Gerry has followed up and this is still
being negotiated). Glenn will Contact Dutch Dresser regarding The
Balsams.
New Business: We
need to start thinking about events for the upcoming year. It was agreed
that socially oriented gentle driving events (non-competitive, at moderate
speeds, on good roads, that include opportunities for socializing) seem to
be the most popular with our members. So we need to take that into
consideration in our planning.
Spring Fling will
start off the new season at Morong's on Sunday, April 25 from 10 a.m. to
noon. The dealership manager will be sure the doors are open. Joe Thrift
has agreed to coordinate coffee and doughnuts.
Glenn brought
materials from Maine Indoor Karting in Portland. He and Karen visited
there recently and had a great time. He thinks we should consider doing
an informal club event there. Several options were discussed. Glenn will
follow up with Maine Indoor Karting to learn when good times might be for
a PCA group
Web Page review: Linc
is not here this evening.
Newsletter update: Kudos
to Terri on her first newsletter. It looked great. Interesting
articles. Next newsletter probably in early May. Sally Sprafka will do
an article on rallying to complement Doug's article on concours. She may
also set up a mini-rally route for people to run if they are interested.
Suggestion that we might want to contact Adam Baer to see if he is
interested in helping with the concours. Dutch Dresser has indicated an
interest in helping with the rally.
Other:
Glenn will check on
new name tags for new board members.
Suggest a photo and
blurb about each board member in the spring (next) newsletter.
Jerry updated the
group on his discussions with Jeff and Terry Anderholm at the Bass Cottage
Inn in Bar Harbor. He outlined different arrangements they can make
available to the club. Jerry offered to put together a proposal for two
or three possible "packages" for discussion with them. Jerry will
continue to follow up. Looking at something in October, around color
season.
Next Meeting:
March 27 for banquet and elections, then
July 20, 2004 at 7:00 at Steve Atwell's office (Otis & Atwell on Gannett
Drive).
Adjourned
at 8:35
p.m.
Sally Sprafka
