Old
Business:
1. Plans for banquet: Date is March
9. Location Portland Country Club. Suggest we include slides of new
people who went to Taste of the Track in October. Also Ellen Beck
probably has a videotape of the event we may be able to use. Suggestion
we ask two or three people who participated in Taste of the Track
(preferably new people) to talk for a couple of minutes each about their
experience. Don will look into getting the Rick Bayh tape. Brian will
deal with the technical aspects of the movies (projection, etc.) Probably
use the set-up we had last year. There were no complaints. Brief
discussion of flower arrangement give-away. Sally will provide the
flowers for the tables. Need a different People are catching on to the
"numbers on the chairs" trick, so we will have to try something else.
Linc has reserved the space. Don will take care of door prizes --
probably little goody bags like we did last year.
Reasonably lengthy discussion about speaker. Rod has
spoken with person from Blacksmith Winery, who is willing to give a talk.
Question is where do we want him to focus. Decision is to pay a little
extra, and do a mini wine tasting. Possibly two reds and two whites.
Blacksmith person can introduce each wine, and those who wish can taste.
Need to check with Club to be sure we can bring wine in, and who they want
to do the serving/pouring. There may be rules or a convention about who
is "authorized" to do that. Rod will get back to Blacksmith and make
arrangements.
Henry Hoeh is our new Zone 1 rep. He will get an
invitation. We will not be inviting him specifically as a guest speaker.
Brief discussion of potential awards: Member of the
Year, perhaps a Rookie of the Year award, and maybe others, at Don's
discretion.
2. Website: Need more clarification
on access to National website by regional websites. Can we simply set up
a link? There is information in Regionfocus on what is available to tap
into.
3. Membership: No report.
4. Calendar: Several things considered,
many "traditions". Basically plan on last year's calendar (of course
changing the dates so they're correct for 2002). For new ideas consider :
a. Having a little questionnaire at the
banquet tables for people to suggest possible activities for the calendar
b. Consider a simple rally perhaps in
conjunction with Jeff's BBQ.
New Business
Newsletter: Getch will not be able to do the
newsletter for the foreseeable future. He will do one more issue in
January and then we'll need to find an alternative. Suggestion to contact
Glen Hill who has expressed interest in the past. Question of whether he
is equipped to do the more technical aspects (desktop publishing
capabilities). Brian will follow up with Glen.
Events: Schedules for track events are
starting to appear. North Country Region plans to do a Taste of the Track
or something similar again this year (fall 2002).
Don would like to push harder for our website to do
updates. Difficult to do without putting undue pressure on Linc who has
already done a yeoman's job. Would like to get more e-mails from
members. Would really like to be able to start a list of e-mail addresses
on the website. Need to consider the ramifications of that.
No announcements/communications from National.
Meeting adjourned at 8:30
Next meeting, Febuary 6, 2002
