Meeting Minutes

July 12th, 2005

Office of Otis & Atwell, Gannett Drive, S. Portland (Steve Atwell)

Previous Meeting Minutes

Present:  Steve Atwell, Linc Avery, Rod Carr, Rick DiFilipp, Gerry Giordano, Ned Vadakin, Sally Sprafka

Meeting convened: 7:00 p.m.

Important Information from PCA National:  As more PCA Regions are including karting events in their schedules, PCA National has issued notification that it does not sanction karting events.  Karting events are not covered by PCA insurance.  Results and promotion of karting events on PCA region websites is now prohibited.

Ned announced the program being jointly sponsored by Porsche AG and PCA, in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Porsche Club of America.  50 special edition Club Coupes will be produced by Porsche, of which 48 will be available for purchase only to members of PCA in the United States and Canada.  One will go to the Porsche museum in Stuttgart, and one will be raffled off to a lucky PCA member.  There is a website where one can sign up for the purchase option, as well as for the raffle.  There is an extensive article about the celebration production in the July issue of Pano.

Newsletter: In the next few days we should receive our newly formatted newsletter, Maine Porsche News.  A new addition will be color photography on the cover.  Steve Atwell's article on the Zone 1 event will be in the newsletter, and is also on our website.

Summer BBQ and Fun Concours:  Ned will contact Jeff Smith and check on his availability on August 21 (Sunday).

Mackworth Island Show N Shine:  Rick DiFilipp has agreed to take care of the awards.  There will be 5 awards this year, in the form of plaques.  Rick was able to get a good deal on the awards, including engraving, and on the ribbons that will be given to every entrant. There is enough in the treasury to cover costs, and, with hopefully as many entrants as we had last year, we will be able to contribute $500 to the Baxter School for the deaf.

Steve, Ned, Gerry, Rick, and Sally agreed to volunteer to help with the event.  Dick Klingaman may want to help out as well.  There was a discussion of how to handle balloting, so it is more efficient than last year.

German Restaurant Tour: Steve will help set it up, and take care of the insurance.

Foreign Car Meet: Rod contacted the Owl's Head Museum, and we will have our own parking area.  This should also be a tour.  Suggest that those who want to participate in the tour meet at the visitors' center in Yarmouth.  Meet at 9:00, plan to leave at 10:00.  We will need insurance for that.  Steve will take care of it.  Others who aren't interested in touring can meet us at Owl's Head.

Autocross: Ned will contact Phil Winslow to see if he is interested in running an autocross event.

Member Survey: Rod distributed an example of a possible survey format.  Also Will Lund, our newsletter editor has experience with surveys, and might want to contribute some ideas.

Calendar: When all dates are confirmed, Linc will put events up on the web site.  Dutch Dresser is not able to do the Balsams tour on the weekend we suggested, so we will take a year off for that event.

Financial:  No issues. We are doing fine.

Membership: We need to continue to be a fun and friendly, welcoming region.  It would be good to increase participation.  Discussion of whether to have a goal or not.  Discussion of being sure to track attendance and  list participants in every event in the newsletter.  A "Who'd you miss" kind of column.  People like to see their names in print, in recognition of their interest and active participation in the club.  Another idea would be to offer a prize or gift to the person and/or couple who attended the most events.  We will be making all subsequent monthly meetings general membership meetings.  Rod will put together a new member package that includes a newsletter, and a revised version of the "About DERPCA" brochure that Glenn Hill developed.  Linc has been admirably tenacious about remembering to e-mail reminders to members about upcoming events.

Next meeting:  Next Meeting: August 9th, 2005, 7:15  p.m. at Orthopaedic Associates of Portland, 33 Sewall St, Portland (Linc Avery). Directions

Adjourned at 8:30 p.m.
