A brisk spring day makes for a strong showing at Morong’s.

2002 Spring Fling!

Although it was a little chillier than the bright sunshine might have suggested, the DER crowd showed up in force for the 2002 Spring Fling, held at Morong Falmouth. Anxious to shake off the effects of cabin fever, DER members brought approximately 22 Porsches to the event, just about filling up the available space in the Morong parking area! Other members who could not bring their cars for a variety of reasons still made the trek to hob-knob with fellow Downeasters.

President Don McGilvery and Russ Radcliffe were seen wrestling with the TV/VCR in the service area, but they eventually got it running, and good thing they did, too. Returning member Jerry Giordano (back from Riverside, CA) brought a stockpile of Porsche videos, including a RUF Porsche demonstration tape that had the whole crowd roaring with delight! Members who are curious about our Driver Education program got to see a little bit of the action through videos shot on the track at New Hampshire International Raceway. Naturally, refreshments were provided as well, and the challenge became keeping powdered sugar and dripping coffee off the gleaming Porsches in Morong’s showroom!

Sterling Silverr: Don Michaud brought this spotless 356C

Don Michaud trundled in with a friend’s shiny 356C. The 911-crowd was well represented as usual, and the water-pumpers brought out their 944’s and 928’s. There were a couple of rare 1989 911’s on display, including Charlie Scamman’s 911/ClubSport, and Bill & Diana Gowen’s original 38k mile coupe. Past President Jeff Smith surprised everyone by limping in with a broken leg from a skiing mishap, but he still made the effort, and that’s what counts!

The consensus was that this is an outstanding start to what promises to be a banner year for the Down East Region. Members were heard discussing their plans for the year, and they all sound exciting! So strap yourselves in, folks, it’s going to be a fast-paced year here in the Down East region! Special thanks of course go to Bill Sowles of Morong Falmouth for hosting the Spring Fling.
