Try it out! - it takes less than 30 minutes Mini Rally by Sally Sprafka As an addendum to our description of what a time/speed/distance rally is, and some ideas about how one works, we offer a mini-rally for you to run if you are so inclined. We also include an explanation of time calculation using distance and speed definitions so you can get a feeling for how the Fiendish Rally Master (at least this one) thinks. Don't peek, now! Go ahead and run the rally based just on the instructions and see how you do. Then check the discussion and see how you did. First you need to betake yourself and your companion (remember a rally is a team effort) to the Department of Public Works of the Town of Falmouth parking lot. It is located on Woods Rd. just west of Rte 9 in Falmouth. It is easily identifiable by the BIG green barn right next to the office building. There is no odometer check leg for this rally. Miles were set in a Toyota Camry with stock wheel/tire configuration. Instructions:
Discussion: 1. Turn left out of the DPW parking lot, and go west on Woods Rd. Take Woods Rd. to Woodville Rd. Go 1.4 miles, average 35 mph. It takes 2.4 minutes. 2. Right at T. Turn right onto Woodville Rd. Take Woodville Rd. to Winn Rd. Go 2.05 miles, average 35 mph. It takes 3.53 minutes. 3. Right at T. Turn right onto Winn Rd. Take Winn Rd to Cross Rd. Go 1.05 miles, average 40 mph. It takes 1.57 minutes. 4. Right after Sunrise Acres Farm. Turn right onto Cross Rd. Take Cross Rd. to Rte 9. Go .35 miles, average 25 mph. It takes .82 minutes. 5. Left at T. Turn left onto Rte 9. Take Rte 9 to Winn Rd. Go 0.40 miles, average 45 mph. It takes .53 minutes. 6. Left. Turn left onto Winn Rd. Take Winn Rd. to Field Rd. Go 1.65 miles, average 40 mph. It takes 2.46 minutes. 7. Left onto Field Rd. Turn left onto Field Rd. Take Field Rd. to no name rd. This is Maine. They're not real good about road signs. Go 1.55 miles, average 30 mph. It takes 3.1 minutes. 8. Left at T. Turn left onto no-name-I-think-it's-Woodville-Rd. Take that Rd. to Woods Rd. Go 0.6 miles, average 30 mph. It takes you 1.2 minutes. 9. Right after "Pavement Narrows". Turn right onto Woods Rd. Take Woods Rd. to the DPW parking lot where you started. Go 1.4 miles, average 35 mph. It takes you 2.4 minutes 10. Right into parking lot after big green barn on right. Turn right into the DPW parking lot, and you're back where you started.
