As I mentioned in our last
newsletter, the Down East Region was approached and has decided to hold
the 2005 Zone One Concours & Rally here in Maine. Steve and Kyle Atwell
are heading up the initial phase of this event, seeking out and
identifying options for the site of the concour and a host hotel. In
addition to getting a firm commitment for a site and lodging, we will be
suggesting a rally route and dinner options. We are in the process of
forming a committee to work on this event and we are looking for
volunteers to help out. If you are interested, please contact Steve or me
– we would welcome your participation. The more work that gets completed
early on, the easier it will be in 2005. I will be presenting an informal
report of our progress to date at the fall (November) Zone One Presidents’
meeting. This should be a great event, an opportunity for DER members to
see some very special cars, meet new people, and participate in a Zone One
event.
Well here we are in
mid-summer here in Maine and I hope all are having a great time enjoying
what Maine and northern New England have to offer. I, and the rest of the
“track rats,” have been on the road to several driver education events
this spring and early summer: 2 trips to Watkins Glen, a trip to Mont
Tremblant above Montreal in Canada, and several trips to the New Hampshire
International Speedway. The social event sector of the club has been
active as well: Bonny Eagle Car Show, Ice Cream Run, and a new event for
us this year, a trip to the Balsams. As a club, we try to take advantage
of our wonderful spring by offering several alternative events and it is
great to see many of our members joining in. Other events that are fun to
attend include the VIP Show Shine & Drag in Oxford, and several weekend
events at the Owls Head Transportation Museum. Check out our calendar
elsewhere in this newsletter, cut it out and stick it on your
refrigerator, or visit our website, and find an event that’s just right
for you.
Speaking of the
website, check it out at www.derpca.com and see our new look. Linc Avery,
our webmaster, has given our site a “facelift” and it really looks great,
is easy to use and is a wealth of information about our region and PCA in
general We have begun issuing mass e-mail updates for our events so if you
haven’t added your e-mail, please do so with confidence.
The Down East
Region board of directors meet the second Tuesday of every month to review
previous events, finalize plans for future events, monitor our membership
roster, review correspondence received form the Zone One and National PCA,
review the website, discuss upcoming articles for the newsletter, and
share information related to PCA, our region, and our cars. Our board is a
dedicated group of individuals with a broad range of experience,
interests, with unending energy for our club. I am very proud to be
associated with such a group. Our meetings are open to all members and
their guests and we are open to new ideas.
