Owl's Head Foreign Car Festival & Midcoast Mountains Ramble
Yes, that pesky Maine weather got us again!
Story and photos by Glenn Hill
Although
billed as a two-for-one special, it was more like a one-two punch! The
Midcoast Mountain Ramble was canceled due to bad weather earlier in the
year, and it was decided to reschedule it to align with Owl Head’s Foreign
Car Festival, but the misty, rainy Coastal Maine weather caused the
DER-team to throw in the towel once again. Some folks made it to the
museum, but anything beyond that just wasn’t on the cards.

Getchell was on hand at OHTM to show off his vintage Volvo Rally
Car! The PCA badge on the Volvo's grille lets others know he means
business! |
However, that doesn’t mean
that it was a total loss. A decent-sized group met for breakfast at
Moody’s diner, and then continued the caravan up to the Museum. Even in
the rain, Owl’s Head Transportation shines like a jewel, capturing the
attention of all those who love cars, planes, motorcycles, and more! New
on display at OHTM, is an exhibit honoring the history of the Sports Car.
A delightful presentation by the museum staff covered the details of over
100 years of enthusiastic motoring. The collection itself is a
near-priceless collection of sports cars representing the work of Porsche,
Mercedes-Benz, Alfa-Romeo, Ford, MG, Ferrari, and almost every other maker
of great sports cars. The rest of the museum is a charming collection of
all things that move and fly. If you love transportation, and have not
yet been to Owl’s Head, you owe yourself a trip up there.
For those who made the drive,
it was still a fun day. It takes more than a few raindrops to soak the
hearts of the DER crowd! Don’t worry; we’ll be back next year! Let’s
just hope that Mother Nature feels like playing on our side this time!
