Rules Milwaukee: Time-warp DER Cab wins Preservation 356 Division at
Parade |
Their 1959 356A Cabriolet
garnered top honors in the hotly contested Preservation Class. The original
owner stored the car from 1968 until last summer. It emerged in condition that
reflects loving care, with a lovely patina from 40-some thousand miles. “There’s
even masking tape under the bumpers that the factory used to protect the
paintwork during assembly,” says Tom.
At the concours prep lot, people
kept stopping by to check out the car. They’d ask questions like, You sure
that’s the original paint, the body’s REALLY never been apart?
Tom recalls, “They’d want to
look at certain areas to see how Porsche did things way back when. They’d ask
to look at some obscure fastener up by the spare tire, just to guide their own
restorations or whatever. It was hard to get work done!” Rumors spread about
the car’s time-warp condition, and soon, even the 356 gurus came seeking
pointers. Thanks to DER’s Don Michaud and Duncan Smith for their assistance
with the winning prep.
