North America is fortunate to have a road course like Watkins
Glen International. The facility is the continuation of a road racing tradition
dating back to 1948, when sports cars raced on the 6.6-mile course through the
village of Watkins Glen. The permanent road course was built in 1956 and has
been continually upgraded since that time, now hosting NASCAR, GrandAm, HSR,
SVRA and PCA events. The Zone 1 48 Hours at Watkins Glen is not only a driving
event, one of the longest running Driver Ed. events in PCA. It is also a social
event, bringing together members from the Zone and beyond.
The driver education event will consist of at least 90
minutes per day at speed for each entrant on Saturday and Sunday. Being the 30th
Anniversary event, all entrants will receive a commemorative shirt. The annual
Saturday night dinner will be held at the Glen Club at the foot of the “esses.”
This year’s event will include instructor training on Friday using the new
national instructor-training program. The cost of the event is $200 per entrant
(plus $25 per person for the Saturday dinner). To register for the event,
download an event application from the Zone 1 website ( http://zone1.pca.org ).
Registration opens on April 15 (postmarked) and closes May 15. It is sure to be
a sell-out again this year being the 30th Anniversary event!
