Story
& photos by Rodd Carr
When the DER Driver Ed contingent
headed up the Canada’s newly rebuilt Circuit Mont Tremblant,on July 19-22nd,
it was supposed to be a simple four-day trip. It turned out be a full four-day
adventure.

attack: Brian

The track wasn’t quite finished
yet, which led to considerable confusion about where to park trailers and
service vehicles. For the first two days, we were restricted to about half the
course, on a short and tight section.

The new track surface felt great—once
the first few cars slithered around and swept the sand off, that is. The edges
were still unfinished, and there was a bit of concern that if you went off the
pavement, you’d bog down in the mud. Fortunately there were no major
incidents, with a few off-track excursions that just kicked up great clouds of
dust.

strikes again: Sally

For the second two days, the
entire course opened up, and things were much, much better. Many of the concrete
walls sported fresh piles of brand-new Firestone tires, thanks to the recent
massive recall of SUV tires. It made the walls a lot less intimidating!
