The 2003 DER
Ice-Cream Run
What better an excuse to
fire up the Porsche?
By Larry Theut
The
sun finally broke through the persistent overcast, and DER club members from
Kennebunk to Boothbay Harbor met in Yarmouth on the evening of June 20th
for the annual DER Ice Cream Run. The great ice cream (blueberry sundaes!) was
surpassed only by the camaraderie of “Porsche-izing” with fellow DER members.
Kudos go to Joe Thrift for organizing the
event and planning the route. By the way, that nice stretch of road under the
narrow railroad underpass was reminiscent of a similar railroad underpass just
after the “white house” S-curve on the original Watkins Glen road course! It
was a great drive and a very worthy event to participate in.
I have two questions for Joe…
1: Why Ice Cream only once-a-year?! This
was just grand!
2: Where the heck was everybody else? They
missed a terrific event!
