Ice-Cream Run
If this isn’t the best reason to own a
Porsche, then what is?

What do you get when you add 11 P-cars, a warm summer
night, and country back roads? The DER Ice-Cream run to Hoggman’s of course!
| The evening of June 21, 2002 was
the setting for a perfect ramble through the farmlands of Pownal, New
Glouster, and Gray on our way to Hogman’s frozen custard stand. The
jump-off point was Hannaford’s in Yarmouth where most members met to
start the 45-minute drive. |
Quite the lineup! Beautiful summer
weather and good turnout made for a super 2002 Ice Cream Run! Here are the
cars at the start of the event in Yarmouth.

There were
a few new faces on hand: Harry & Elaine Dresser and Tyler & Gabrielle Van Spanje,
as well as many old friends. Things got quite interesting when the pavement
ended and a 1-mile trek over dirt roads began.

No one knew we would be rallying on
this trip! Also, at some point, a few cars got a little lost and had to
ask a passer-by for directions: “If you’re with the other cars that just
went by...they went that way”, was the reply! The rest of the group met up
with the other members at Hogman’s and enjoyed the refreshing frozen
custard. Some members could be seen with little brown take home bags of
hand packed pints and quarts to enjoy over the weekend. |
| If you didn’t make it this time, but
would like to go on your own Ice cream run, take route 26/100 to the center
of Gray and continue on 26 towards Auburn, Hogman’s will be on your left.
The general impression from participants was this had to be one of the best
events so far this year. Everyone seemed to have a blast. Thanks go to Joe
Thrift for organizing and executing this event, and a personal thank-you to
Ayers Stockly for letting me tag along in his lovely 1984 911 Cabriolet. |
