Yes, it is time to take the top off, and I have to admit the 2004 maiden voyage of our 911 Targa was taken with the top off. It was only about 58 degrees, and we kept the windows up, but the sun was out and yes we did take the top off. The weather also cooperated for the Spring Fling at Morong, with plenty of sunshine (see the photos and article elsewhere in the newsletter).

Another annual rite of spring for Terri and I is the Spring Ramble held by the Northeast Region (Boston area). This event starts first thing in the morning with a mass start from somewhere outside of Boston, then “rambles” to some mid-day lunch destination, sticking to the twisty back roads. After lunch, there is another ramble to the final destination, usually some resort establishment in the New England area. The day is topped off by a social event and dinner at the resort. This year’s event headed to the Haraseeket Inn in Freeport for lunch, and ended at the Samoset resort in Rockland. We actually didn’t make the run this year, but we did stop in at the Harraseeket to watch the roll-in. This year’s event appeared to be well attended, and I would estimate there were over one hundred cars. We even ran into some acquaintances there that we have met at past Rambles. It may be heresy, but I have to say one of the highlights was the Ferrari 360 Modena Spyder that someone had driven to the event (see opposite). It’s a shame I can’t fit behind the steering wheel of those things…

Why am I telling you about some other club’s event? I guess the point is that there are a lot of events and activities out there to enjoy, even if they aren’t run by our club. For example, we have attended concours events held by both the Northeast and North Country (NH) regions, which are usually in some unique and/or beautiful location. It’s a great excuse to take the P-car out for a ride on the weekend. Another event we had a lot of fun at was a “ramble” along the Kangamangus to a group picnic, which was held by the North Country club. As another example of the warm welcome you will usually receive, I was considering attending the annual Vintage Grand Prix event in Pittsburgh, PA. I got a contact at the local Pittsburgh area PCA club from their internet site, and they were more than happy to help me out, even inviting us to join in their picnic/BBQ/car show on the nearby golf course.

There are other resources out there as well. If you are looking to buy or sell a Porsche, or its dismembered parts, you should check out the “Mart” area of the Northeast Region website (porschenet.com). This is one of the best internet classifieds I have found for Porsches (although this is probably not a good habit to get into).

Bottom line, I hope you take full advantage of what the PCA experience has to offer, and definitely enjoy the summer.

Doug
