Actually, this first issue has been an enjoyable
learning experience for both of us. It helps when Glenn submits three articles
for the newsletter himself. That leaves less work for us. It also would have
helped if I hadn’t agreed to get the DER Spring Banquet Invitations around the
same time as the newsletter. But, alas, it appears we got both done within a
reasonable time frame.
Doug and I joined DERPCA in 1999 when we acquired our
first Porsche, a 1986 white 944 with a “Can-Can Red” interior. Since then we
have attended numerous club events as well as the 2001 Zone 1 Concours/Rally in
Newport and several Northeast Region PCA spring rambles. We enjoy the social
aspects of the club, the camaraderie of the members, and Doug loves the chance
to ogle all the other members’ cars. It just seemed natural at this point to get
more involved and see if we can help. We have even taken on more
responsibilities with the club. We now attend Board of Directors’ meetings once
a month and we have also volunteered to be co-chairs with Steve and Kyle Atwell
for the 2005 Zone 1 Concours/Rally that DERPCA is hosting in Portland.
First, we would like to encourage everyone to get more
involved. This is our club and we can make it what we want. At a recent Board of
Directors meeting we discussed what the mission of the club should be. History
shows that our most popular events are the club’s social events, so that is
where we decided to concentrate our efforts. We have a great list of events
being planned for this year, some new and some old favorites. We could use some
help from others as these events take time and effort to plan. I encourage you
all to get involved. Doug and I have and are enjoying the camaraderie of other
Porsche owners.
As more issues of the Porscheforme come out you will
see that Doug and I will take turns at this column. If you have any comments or
suggestions please send us an email or stop us at a club event and let us know.
Better yet, consider sharing your personal experiences as a Porsche owner with
the club by writing an article for the newsletter. Guest writers are always
welcome and actually encouraged. That means less work for Doug and I to fill the
pages.
